A group of workers within construction companies from the country have successfully completed the first training course and professional training in construction. The project is financed by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) jointly with consortium STRABAG, Bfi Burgenland, Callidus Moldova and the L&R Institute for Social Research in Vienna, supported by the Federation of Trade Unions of Construction and Building Materials Industry “Sindicons” and Employers’ Federation of Builders, Road Workers and Manufacturers of Building Materials “Condrumat”.

The pilot project “Training Center and professional training in constructions” performs dual training in the construction field for people who after graduating general study degree have the opportunity to acquire knowledge, practical skills and competencies. The educational program is based on a specialized content and practical exercise, where participants learn how to handle equipment used in civil and industrial engineering and participate in the installation and finishing works in constructions.

Attending the event awarding of graduation certificates, which took place on 20th of January, at the Centre of Excellence in Construction from Chisinau, Victor TALMACI, president of the Federation “Sindicons”, mentioned that trade unions have been always concerned with professional training for adults.

“Businessmen need well-trained specialists, but not all of them want to contribute financially to their professional training. This project gave us the opportunity to train them for free at specialties as mason builder and blacksmith-fixer, being a premier for our branch. The training will give the possibility to share their experience to their colleagues, to increase the skills and the culture of production”, said TALMACI.

In his turn, Walter Reiter, ADA representative, highlighted the necessity of an effective social dialogue and this time it worked. “Without the support of all those involved, including trade unions and employers organization in the sector, it would not have been possible to implement the learning process. We are very proud to finalize the first stage of the project, which will give the possibility to those trained to get employed and give an added value to the work that they provide”, said Reiter.

However, during the project eight teachers from the Centre of Excellence in Construction went on a visit to Vienna, Austria, where for a week have mastered new working practices and methods.
“It is the first experience of this kind, which proved to be a successful one. Our teachers are better prepared and willing to put into practices the gained knowledge”, pointed Valeriu Pelivan, director of the Center of Excellence in Construction.

In total, within the pilot at least 120 workers and 30 unemployed young people will receive training qualifications and will be retrained. The target group consists of workers in construction companies from the country, workers of STRABAG Moldova Company, unemployed young people registered at the National Agency of Employment, as well as students of vocational-technical institutions in the field.
