Sergiu Sainciuc, vice president of the CNSM, attended the sub-regional trade union conference on the Future of Work, organized in Baku, Azerbaijan, by the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office, with the participation of the Decent Work Technical Assistance Group and ILO representatives for Eastern European and Central Asian countries.

One of the main reasons that generated the need to organize the event is that in the last few decades there have been profound changes in the field of labour in many countries of the world, regardless of their level of development. These trends are determined by certain factors such as globalization and technological innovations, which cause changes in the sphere of production; increasing inequality, polarization and exclusivity; demographic developments, including the migration process; climate change, and, since 2008, economic stagnation.

As a result, four years ago, ILO launched the century initiative of the Future of Work. From this perspective, the sub-regional trade union conference is an important step in the deep understanding of the evolution of labour relations and the need to develop effective measures to offset the negative effects on workers.

The conference focuses on four relevant topics proposed by Guy Ryder, the General Secretary of the ILO: work and society; decent work for all; work organization and production, and management of labour relations.

The organizers call for trade unions to involve in the process of implementing the Future of Work initiative, given the serious problems faced by countries in Europe and Central Asia.

Representatives of trade unions, governments, scientists from the concerned countries have proposed several strategies as reaction measures that can be applied by the social partners as tools to promote and protect workers’ rights.
