Women trade unionists are worried about migration phenomenon, lower living standards, political instability in some countries, and gender pay gap. These are just some of the conclusions of the ITUC / PERC Women Trade Union School, organized in September 25-27, in Jahorina, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event was attended by Liuba Rotaru, the president of the Women’s Commission of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM), together with other trade unionists from the region.

The ITUC / PERC Women Trade Union School is part of a regional training cycle of the International Labour Organization, benefiting trade unionists from Central and Eastern Europe, on decent work-oriented social policies.

Liuba Rotaru, president of the Women’s Commission of the CNSM, noted that there are shortcomings in the field of labour inspection, working conditions, in the region are cases when employees’ rights are ignored, social guarantees are missing, and trade unionists have to activate their positions to influence socio-economic processes.

To improve working conditions, women trade unionists believe it is necessary to strengthen social dialogue, increase the power of the collective labour agreement, actively negotiate with employers and obtain concrete facilities for trade union workers. At the same time, it is necessary to involve more women in decision-making positions.

Trade unions advocate for gender equality, so that the voice of women is heard. The participants also mentioned the need to train employees, intensify collaboration with non-governmental organizations and other actors of civil society, and organize information campaigns.
