During 21 – 22 of February in Brussels, Belgium, was held a new meeting of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC) Women Committee within the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). The meeting aimed to discuss the Committee’s work plan for 2018 and to decide on the main themes to be considered. At this forum, the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM) was represented by Liuba Rotaru, president of the Women’s Commission within the CNSM.

During the meeting, the participants discussed all the proposals for organizing several meetings during the year, organizing campaigns and projects to inform and raise public awareness on fair payment, social protection, promotion of International Labour Organization Conventions, promoting women in decision-making positions, organizing training activities. At the same time, trade unions will exchange experience on challenges and activities in different countries that relate to the promotion and protection of women’s rights and interests.

In a report previously presented by Sabine Slegers, president of the PERC Women Committee, it is clear that the current situation of the labour and welfare market in Europe is worrying because the recent reforms of the national authorities have led and could continue to lead to reducing public funding and social dialogue, precariousness and insecurity in work being prerequisites for expanding gender inequalities in society. The author of the report comes with a call and notes that it is essential to act to make equality between women and men a real priority rather than a rhetoric.

In long terms, the goals of PERC’s women’s structure are: to ensure the implementation of the PERC gender equality program; adopting positions on gender issues and monitoring the implementation of gender mainstreaming in PERC policies; the full integration of women into trade unions; ensuring gender mainstreaming in trade union programs and projects.
