On May 22, Oleg Budza, president of CNSM, had a meeting with the representatives of the Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI), who participated in the Strategic Meeting in the context of the BWI / UtoU / SBTF Project for the Pan-European Region in 2018 -2019 and Seminar on the exchange of experience in the field of campaigning and communication, events organized by the BWI at the Labour Institute of the CNSM and the Federation of Trade Unions in Constructions and Building Materials Industry “SINDICONS” of the Republic of Moldova.

The president of the CNSM noted that trade unions, especially from the CIS states, crossed an unusual period of time, but one of becoming, coupled with multiple attempts. In this respect, the trade union leaders’ attention should be focused on the creation of trade union organizations and the motivation for membership of trade unions, especially of young people, as the number of large transnational companies that are launching on the labour markets in the post-Soviet space is increasing. Firstly, information policy should be geared to the fact that trade unions are primarily concerned with ensuring safe and healthy workplace, guaranteeing employment, decent work, negotiating collective labour agreements, improving professional qualifications, a safe premise for careers.

Oleg Budza informed BWI representatives that one of the basic concerns of trade unions of Moldova is the field of occupational safety and health, a prerogative stemming from the EU-Moldova Association Agreement. In this context, he pointed out that the CNSM has its own instrument, the Labour Inspectorate of the Trade Unions, which allows it to achieve the major goal of the trade union movement of the Republic of Moldova, which does not have a punitive mission, but rather a prophylaxis, of compliance with the relevant legislation.

One of the main ideas that the President of the CNSM has suggested to those present is the conclusion that a fundamental condition for revival, consolidation of the trade union movement both at the country level and at the regional, global level is the cohesion, the solidarity of the leaders, activists, trade union members.

Victor Talmaci, President of the SINDICONS Federation, said that the debates to be held today must demonstrate the attitude of the participants to this project, to what extent the collaboration at the regional level will intensify the positive impact on the trade union movement, will reveal the role of the innovations from the perspective of the trade union activity.

The BWI representatives approached topics related to the current regional trade union movement, highlighted the main challenges of the labour market and the role of the trade unions, highlighted the basic prospects of the trade union movement and highly appreciated the main directions of activity of the trade unions in Moldova. In their view, the organization of the Strategic Meeting in the context of the BWI / UTU / SBTF Project for the Pan-European Region 2018-2019 and the Seminar on the Exchange of Campaign and Communication Experience speaks about the fact that the CNSM has become a platform for debate and solving the problems of the trade union movement at the regional level.
