16.12.2016

We disagreed on the intention to increase the retirement age for women.

The Confederal Committee of CNSM, prior, in the process of examining the draft law expressed categorically against raising the retirement age for women and men.

It is known that life expectancy in Moldova is at a very low level compared to other countries. According to the NBS, in 2015 life expectancy at birth was 75.5 years for women and 67.5 years for men.

However, according to studies carried out by the Center for Demographic Research, healthy life expectancy for men aged 15-19 is 54.1 years and for women – 62 years.

We note that at the age of 63 years labor productivity cannot be ensured at the required level, which is affected by the presence of various diseases.

Moreover, given the fact that women become mothers and bear childcare, in many cases they cannot provide the necessary conditions for retirement, especially subscribing contribution period.

We note that previously trade unions have achieved declaration of being unconstitutional the provision on increasing the contribution period to 35 years for women, to become an entitlement for old age pension.

Starting from the above, the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova calls on all Moldovan deputies not to accept the promotion of the initiative to increase the retirement age for both women and men.
