On October 10, at the CNSM Labor Institute took place a workshop on “Strengthening the Work of Trade Unions: Practices and Experiences”, where Bogdan Iuliu Hossu, President of CNS Cartel Alfa, Romania, talked about the strategic objectives of the CNS Cartel Alfa, about the initiatives and achievements of this trade union on improving and expanding the social protection of employees, the challenges of deepening social inequities and overcoming them. The event was attended by the leadership of CNSM and of the national-branch trade union centers.

Oleg Budza, president of the CNSM, said that trade unions from Moldova are working very actively in all segments of the trade union movement with the National Trade Union Confederation of Cartel Alfa. He said that many useful things can be learned from Romanian colleagues because they have a rich experience in organizing social dialogue. CNSM president noted that Bogdan Iuliu Hossu is a very well known leader of the trade union movement in the European space.

In his report, Bogdan Iuliu Hossu stressed that in order to be strong, trade unions must be able to actively introduce and enforce ideas and requests. To this end, they must have structures for active counseling of members, for offensive recruitment of new members, with the ability to strike and at the level of units, to run campaigns. At the same time, they must be able to support an open and competent dialogue with the other actors on the social scene. Internally, trade unions must be organized and structured democratically, be competent in all aspects of representing their own interests, requiring the development of internal qualification structures for members, the adequate use of experts in the context of core trade union topics.

In the opinion of CNS Cartel Alfa president, the main issues of the efficiency of the trade union activity must become the quality of social dialogue, information and training of trade union members. In his opinion, in the context in which the world of work is changing, the data of the problem changes from the point of view of the trade unions. According to Bogdan Iuliu Hossu, from this perspective, the trade unions would have two main tasks. An intensive, active and competent activity in the political field is required to impose framework conditions that are most beneficial to economic, labor and social legislation. Also, trade unions have to carry out an intensive and competent activity at branch and enterprise level to make full use of all possibilities offered by the existing legislative framework.

The workshop ended with a session of questions and answers, where CNS Cartel Alfa president and his colleagues from CNSM were part.
