seminar

Tuesday, September 27, trade unionists from various national-branch trade union centres, got familiar with European values and practices in social law, aimed at protecting employees.

According to Ovidiu Jurca, international expert on issues of fundamental rights and freedoms of workers, the moderator of the seminar, the activity aims to increase the institutional capacity of Moldovan trade unions to transpose and implement in national law and practice of the conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Directives of the European Union.

“European values such as the protection of women’s rights, decent work, combating discrimination in the workplace in various forms, were built under ILO Conventions. Given that these values have been successfully implemented in the European space, we believe that can be applied in Moldova, to improve working conditions and to ensure better protection of the rights and interests of employees,” said Ovidiu Jurca.

In turn, Sergiu Sainciuc, vice president of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM), emphasized the importance of implementing the recommendations and international practices, provided by various international documents on labour standards ratified by the Republic of Moldova.

“To ratify certain international documents is easy. But our task, of social partners, is to find ways for the effective implementation of these documents. It is important to focus our efforts on the benefits employees can get following the ratification of international documents,” said Sergiu Sainciuc.

Those present also discussed the mechanisms of supervision and control over the implementation of ILO Conventions, collective bargaining and European trade union claims of late.

The seminar is part of a series of training and information activities organized under a project implemented by the CNSM, with the support of CNV Internationaal (trade union organization from the Netherlands).
