Today, February 9, the delegates of the 6th Congress of the Trade Union Federation of Communication Workers of Moldova (FSCM) gathered at the Labour Institute, where they analyzed the results of the activity from the past five years, elected the governing bodies and outlined the objectives for the next period .

The Congress was attended by delegates from all over the country, trade unionists from the branch industry, and guests: Vitalie Tarlev, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, Sergiu Sainciuc, Vice-President of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova, presidents of the national branch trade union centers, trade unions from the Russian Federation and Romania.

According to the agenda, delegates at the Congress listened to the activity report of the FSCM governing bodies in order to achieve the activity directions for the years 2013-2018, presented by Ion Pîrgaru, president of the FSCM; have been informed about the work of the FSCM Review and Control Commission during the reference period; elected the governing bodies, the president, the vice-president, the election of the members and the president of the Revision and Control Commission; have validated the powers of the members of the FSCM Council.

In the report, Ion Pîrgaru, FSCM president, noted that throughout the activity, the Federation, in close cooperation with the social partners, has worked to improve working conditions in branch companies, raise wages, improve aspects concerning the safety and health at work, the protection of the rights and interests of trade union members in the courts, and special attention was paid to the primary trade union organizations, which are the main link of the Federation.

“FSCM promoted decent work principles by negotiating and concluding collective agreements and contracts; strengthening the trade union movement, supporting member organizations, changing forms and methods of work, allowing trade unions to move from words to deeds. For example, insurance policies on legal aid are held by all members of the 83 member organizations of the FSCM. More than 300 petitions have been received by the Federation and more than 2,750 telephone calls have been recorded, all of which have been thoroughly examined and operationally identified. Also, several guides and informative materials have been developed. Collaborative relations with a number of international trade union organizations have been developed and several projects for the young trade unionists have been implemented”, said the trade union leader.

In the context, trade unionists advocated raising the country’s minimum wage and were worried about the impact of massive population migration. To solve these problems, trade unionists are proposing to gradually align the minimum wage to the subsistence minimum and its subsequent increase.

We mention that during the years 2013-2017, were created trade unions and joined the FSCM ICS “Ericsson Telecomunications” and “Gagauzia Radio Televizionu” Public Company.

Following the election procedure, the new president of FSCM was reelected Ion Pîrgaru, and Elizaveta Iurcu was elected vice-president.

For the next period, trade unionists have proposed to conclude new Conventions and Collective Labor Agreements within branch companies, to develop social dialogue and policies to prevent accidents and work-related illnesses, to modernize the training system of trade union members in various fields, the activation of trade union leaders in the primary trade union organizations, the identification of solutions within the social partnership that would help to adjust the union’s standard of living to European Union standards.

The Trade Union Federation of Communications Workers of Moldova is part of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova and has over 12,000 members.
