In the period 24-25 May, in Warsaw, Poland, was held the 9th Congress of the All-Poland Alliance of Trade Unions (OPZZ). The presentations of representatives of the International Labour Organization, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), the German Foundation “Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung” in Poland were presented at the Congress. The National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM) was represented at the Congress by Petru Chiriac, vice-president of CNSM.
At the Congress, Luca Visentini, ETUC General Secretary, came up with a speech addressing the challenges of the European trade union movement. At the same time, information on the election of OPZZ President and the head of the OPZZ Audit Commission was presented. Jan Guz, President of OPZZ, re-elected by the Congress, presented a report on the work of recent years. Delegates also approved status changes and adopted the OPZZ Strategy for 2018-2022.
Petru Chiriac, vice-president of CNSM, mentioned that the activities were organized at a high level, with representatives from several countries, from different international organizations. “Poland faces similar problems related to migration, social, demographic problems, but the population benefits from a high standard of living. We have a lot to take from our colleagues from Poland in terms of social dialogue, negotiations, strengthening of the trade union movement,” said Petru Chiriac.
The All-Poland Alliance of Trade Unions (OPZZ) was created in 1984, has over 600,000 trade union members and is present in all 16 Polish regions. The previous congress of OPZZ was held in May 2014.
