Strengthening the capacity to collect and use sectorial information on the labour market in the Republic of Moldova was the theme of the workshop organized today by the European Training Foundation (ETF) at the Labour Institute of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova.
Pasqualino Mare, ETF Expert in VET, said that the first of three sessions that the Foundation planned to organize during the current year will focus on revising the existing institutional structure and actors in the production of information, as well as research on the labour market of our country, of the added value specific to the sectorial information that will be elaborated by the sectorial committees. In his view, it will enable the members of the sectorial committees and stakeholders to better understand the existing resources and the type of new information that they could produce in their sectors.
Also mentioned by the ETF expert, this event will contribute to highlighting the role, added value of sectorial committees in carrying out labour market research within the current labour market information structures.
At the same time, issues such as the importance of collecting information and data specific to a given sector, the division of tasks and responsibilities between different institutions, coordination mechanisms and cooperation between institutions providing labour market information, how the sectorial committees can work together to produce sectorial information.
Sergiu Iurcu, head of the Department of Social and Economic Protection of the CNSM, reported that at the current session there are also representatives of several national-branch trade union centres, within which the structures of the sectorial committees were established. In his view, today’s event will help strengthen the capacities of sectorial committees operating within the trade unions.
Sergiu Iurcu also said that sectorial committees lack labour market analyses, to know their demand and supply, and subsequently to develop occupational standards. He expressed the hope that after the session, the sectorial committees would gain more skills, more experience in gathering data on the country’s labour market.
