On the eve of World Day for Social Justice, marked annually on the 20th of February, the social partners have signed the new Decent Work Country Programme for the 2016-2020 period. The document aims to promote decent work as a key component of development policies in the Republic of Moldova.
The signing ceremony of the document was attended by the representatives of the Moldovan Government, the United Nations (UN), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM), the National Confederation of Employers of Moldova (CNPM), social partners and representatives of non-governmental organizations.
Decent Work Country Programme provides a framework for medium-term planning, which guides the activity of the ILO in a country, in accordance with the priorities and objectives agreed with the social partners.
Gheorghe Brega, Deputy Prime Minister on social issues, said that the Moldovan authorities make efforts so that principles of social justice are respected and the citizens can benefit from equal opportunities to develop harmoniously. In this context, the programme will contribute to a better realization of those aspirations.
“It is important that in the Republic of Moldova exist the necessary components to build a present and a decent future for the citizens, poverty to be reduced, to improve the quality system of social justice, and this can be achieved by increasing the collaboration of social partners,” said Dafina Gercheva, UN resident coordinator in the Republic of Moldova.
According to Heinz Koller, ILO regional director for Europe and Central Asia, in the context of the challenges of globalization and socio-economic situation in the region, the implementation of the Programme will give impetus to improve the quality of life of Moldovans.
In his turn, Oleg Budza, president of CNSM, said that the signing of this program is a very important action and expressed hope that it will contribute to improving social dialogue in our country.
On the other hand, the trade union leader is concerned about the situation on the intention to introduce a moratorium on carrying out inspections at the enterprises, which contravenes to international standards concerning occupational safety and health and urged the authorities to take concrete action in order not to admit this.
Referring to the new Country Programme, Leonid Cerescu, President of CNPM, showed convinced that this will lead to economic progress, improvement of the business environment in the country and decrease of the informal economy.
Strategic priorities and the results set out in the Plan of Implementation of the Programme will be monitored during the 2016-2020 period, as joint action of authorities and social partners from the Republic of Moldova and the International Labour Organization.
The program takes into account national and international development agendas such as the Partnership Framework: United Nations – Moldova for 2013-2017, National Development Strategy “Moldova 2020″ and Association Agreement EU-Republic of Moldova.
