Representatives of the Youth Committee of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC) of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) had on Monday, November 14, a meeting with the board of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM) and the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Moldova.

The meeting took place in the context of the International Conference of Young Trade unionists “An inclusive and sustainable trade union for youth” held in Chisinau on 14-15 November

The parties discussed the current situation of young people in Moldova and actions taken by social partners to support them.

Oleg Budza, president of CNSM, said that trade unions are actively involved in the development of youth policies, submitting proposals to improve national legislation, which contribute to improving the situation of young people.

“The proposals of state policy should focus both on reforming the educational system by adjusting the curricula to the needs of the contemporary labour market, development of guidance of young people, creating jobs, as well as on supporting young families with children” mentioned trade union leader.

Paul Ianiţ, the deputy minister of Youth and Sports, spoke about ministry’s actions and programs for youth, encouraging young trade unionists to actively engage in social dialogue to promote their interests.

Tatiana Marian, president of CNSM Youth Commission and PERC Youth Committee, told about PERC priorities in supporting and promoting young people, noting that the problems are common to all countries in the region. “We have the opportunity to exchange best practices to address youth problems, the best way at the moment is our common solidarity and mutual support,” she said.

In turn, Goda Neverauskaite, representative of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC / PERC), spoke about the international activity of the ITUC and activities for youth development. “Youth from Europe and the Newly Independent States is concerned about the same issues: increased rate of unemployment, lack of quality jobs, non-standard forms of employment. It is important that we exchange views, identify the best mechanisms for the protection of young people,” she said.

The same day, members of the PERC Youth Committee and the CNSM Youth Commission had a meeting with members of the CNSM Confederal Committee.
