Members of the Women’s Committee of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC) of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) recently met at weekly consultation meetings to discuss the world situation in the context of the COVID-19 crisis, recovery plans, commitments to return to work, the situation of migrant workers.
An important topic on the agenda of the discussions was the one related to the ratification of Convention no.190 of the International Labor Organization (ILO) on the elimination of violence and harassment in the workplace. The members of the PERC Women’s Committee came up with recommendations and proposals for trade union initiatives, emphasizing the need for training and awareness-raising activities on the provisions of that convention.
According to Liuba Rotaru, the president of the CNSM Women’s Commission and the CNSM representative in the PERC Women’s Committee, another topic discussed by trade unionists is the domestic violence to which women are subjected and have grown up in the current pandemic situation. “We need to focus our efforts and activate work in this respect in order to protect women,” she said.
