From 2012 until now, the Trade Union School of Moldova (TUSM) has had 6 editions and hosted 114 participants, representatives of 17 branch trade union centres. TUSM participants have implemented more than 70 projects in their businesses, helping to solve the various problems faced by employees, trade union members. These figures were communicated on Thursday, October 18, at the meeting of TUSM graduates with the leadership of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM), held within the Labour Institute (LI).
TUSM is a unique educational project in Eastern Europe, which aims to train and develop the functional, social and professional skills of trade union militants. The model of this school was taken over by the trade unionists from Austria, who supported the organization of the given project, which was subsequently adapted to the realities and needs of the trade union members of the Republic of Moldova.
The first 4 editions of the School (2012-2016) were based on the model, and the trainings took place in the evenings, after work and in the weekend sessions. Starting with 2017, and in 2018, in order to allow for the possibility to participate in the TUSM trade union members from the regions, the format was modified and the training of the participants took place during 3 days sessions, the participants meeting within LI for 3 consecutive days every two months.
Oleg Budza, president of the CNSM, stressed that the educational activity is a priority of the trade union movement, and by investing in the training of the participants of the TUSM, it is aimed at forming a new generation of trade union leaders who come with innovative approaches in the activity of the trade unions.
In the same context, Petru Chiriac, vice-president of the CNSM, said that under the current conditions when there are fundamental changes in the field of labour relations, it is important that the young people are well informed and trained in order to have a high level of qualification.
During the School, participants, in partnership with mentors delegated by national branch trade unions, prepare individual or group projects that are implemented within the economic units or trade union federations that have delegated the participants. The format of the School contains distinctive elements that eventually give originality to this type of trade union training that fits perfectly into the patterns of a modernized education.
The participants held a dialogue on the post-project activities after graduation, the difficulties they are experiencing in the workplace, the progress in the negotiations with the employers, new ideas that could bring improvements to the current state of TUSM.
Participants noted that the dissemination of information and knowledge gained in the project is of major importance to the Confederation and aims to improve the image of the CNSM, to promote in all ways the solidarity, democracy, independence and team spirit of the trade union movement.
