The Women’s Council of the National Trade Unions Confederation of Moldova (CNSM) and the Municipal Council of the Trade Union Federation of Education and Science organized a flash mob today to raise awareness among the trade unions and the public opinion regarding violence against women and girls.
Thus, through this action, the CNSM is also joining this year with the United Nations campaign “16 days of activism against gender violence“, which traditionally takes place throughout the world between November 25 and December 10.
The president of the Council of Women within the CNSM, Liuba Rotaru, said that violence against women and girls is a common problem in the Republic of Moldova and called for the active involvement of all social partners, civil society and citizens to stop this scourge.
Through this action, the CNSM joins the International Labor Organization’s (ILO) tasks to combat violence and harassment of women and men at the workplace.
We note that the CNSM Women’s Council previously adopted a Declaration to support the adoption of the ILO Convention against Workplace Violence.
According to international statistics, 35 percent or over 818 million women around the world, aged over 15, have been subjected to domestic violence in public places or at workplace.
