The young trade unionists organized an information action for young people in Cahul

This year, the International Youth Day was marked in Cahul. Thus, on August 12, about 2000 people, young people, families with children, elderly people came to the Youth Festival to celebrate together the young people. The event was organized by the National Youth Council of Moldova, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research of the Republic of Moldova, UNICEF Moldova, UNFPA Moldova, Cahul City Hall, POT Music, and CSO Perspectiva within the Program “Cahul – the capital of Youth 2018

This year, as in the previous years, the young trade unionists, members of the Youth Commission of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM), got involved in the events organized on the occasion of the International Youth Day.

At Cahul, the trade unionists participated in the Fair and NGO and youth organizations exhibitions, where they presented to the visitors information on the activity of the trade union movement and organized an information campaign. The purpose of the action was to inform youth about rights in the field of labour relations and the role of trade unions in this process. The members of the CNSM Youth Commission have distributed informative materials on these subjects and communicated about the activity of the CNSM in the field of social-economic protection of youth, motivation for trade union membership.

During the event, this year aimed at promoting youth centres and organizations as safe and friendly spaces for their development, several activities were organized such as: discussion boards, motivational discourses from youth for youth, competitions, music festival with participation of local artists.

We mention that on the eve of the International Youth Day, the Youth Commission of the CNSM adopted a Declaration stating that the young trade unionists are solidary with the youth from all over the world, share concerns about the issues raised in the International Trade Union Confederation Declaration on the International Day of Youth (see here), and highlight the main problems faced by young people in the Republic of Moldova. Also, on the occasion of the International Youth Day, the Youth Committee of the European Confederation of Trade Unions (ETUC) and the Youth Committee of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC) published a Statement where they draw attention to the social- economic and technological challenges, affecting the interests of young people in the region who need better social protection to meet the existing challenges.

The International Youth Day is celebrated annually on August 12, and the date of the celebration was established by the United Nations General Assembly on December 17, 1999. The goal of this Day is to promote the creation of multilateral development opportunities for young people to participate in economic, social and cultural life, but also in the development of localities through the active involvement of young people.
