Implementing the youth policy of the CNSM and strengthening the union of young trade unionists in order to protect the rights and interests of young trade union members are the main strategic objectives of the Youth Commission of the National Trade Unions Confederation of Moldova (CNSM). This was discussed today, March 14, by the participants in the evaluation session of the activity of the Youth Commission within the CNSM for the period between February 2016 and February 2018.
Petru Chiriac, vice-president of CNSM, said that during the reference period, the Commission fulfilled its mission by organizing a series of concrete actions aimed at improving the socio-economic situation of young people in the Republic of Moldova. “We still have many problems related to improving the legislative and normative framework in the youth field, overcoming the social and economic problems, and providing young people with well-paid jobs. You have good ideas and excitement, and we hope that, through joint efforts, we will get better working conditions for young people, “said the vice-president of CNSM.
In the report, Tatiana Marian, president of the CNSM Youth Commission, noted that the work of the trade union structure had been aligned in accordance with international and national law, the Law on Youth and the objectives of the National Youth Development Strategy for 2014-2020. “The CNSM Youth Commission has demonstrated social and civic activism, being involved in multiple activities in order to promote the rights and interests of young people in working relationships and in the professional environment, and to increase the motivation of young people to actively engage in the trade union movement,” the president of the Commission highlighted.
Thus, during this period, the Commission’s work focused on strengthening efforts and effective youth cooperation through the continuation of dialogue between young people, social partners and civil society, as well as joining youth trade union networks within international trade union organizations, implementation of educational and information programs, promotion of motivation and training programs for young people, development of youth skills in the trade union through information campaigns, forums, seminars, conferences, trainings and strengthening the competences of young people.
We note that considerable success for the CNSM, with a positive impact on youth work, was the holding of the Chair of the Youth Committee within the Pan-European Regional Council for the period 2015-2017 by Tatiana Marian. “It is the first time that the young trade union representatives from the Republic of Moldova have managed the leadership of a Pan-European youth organization. This proved that the CNSM has strengthened its presence on the international arena, and besides recognizing these capabilities, the status and potential of the Confederation is recognized,” Tatiana Marian said.
In order to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic situation and the development of the trade union movement in the country, the young trade unionists consider it necessary to finalize and sign the National Convention for the Socio-Economic Development of Young People, to negotiate additional provisions and guarantees for youth, trade union members in branch conventions and in collective labour agreements; promoting young people in trade union bodies at all levels; the continuous protection of the rights of young people in the work and negotiations process.
The Youth Commission within the CNSM comprises young representatives of each national-branch trade union centre, aged up to 35 years, elected with a mandate for a period of 2 years. Currently, over 25% of the total number of trade union members are young.
