Almost 400 people, trade union leaders and activists from 25 national-branch trade union centres, member organizations of the CNSM, representing more than 360,000 trade union members, whose main concern is the protection of the rights and interests of employees, the affirmation of social justice, have participated in a meeting, which was organized today, June 7, on the occasion of the Trade Unionist’s Day, by the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova.
The event was also honoured by the presence of Mr Pavel Filip, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Leonid Cerescu, President of the National Confederation of Employers of Moldova, Ala Lipciu, National Coordinator of the International Labour Organization in Moldova, Svetlana Cebotari, Minister of Health, Labour and Social Protection, Mihail Cotorobai, People’s Advocate, other representatives of the central public administration.
This event was for Oleg Budza, president of CNSM, an opportunity to reiterate the most important problems of trade unions in Moldova, such as the situation of jobs. He was also worried about the low salaries in the country and on this occasion he addressed Pavel Filip, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, to take action in this regard. In particular, Oleg Budza insisted on diminishing and combating the informal economy, which would be a source of increased accumulation in the national public budget, as a prerequisite for raising salaries and pensions. Also, in the context of the need to increase the salaries, the president of the CNSM advocated for the elaboration and adoption of the unitary law on salaries in the budgetary sector.
Oleg Budza wanted to capture the attention of the Moldovan Government and the importance of the issue of health and safety at work, especially on the need to make the work of the State Labour Inspectorate more efficient.
Pavel Filip, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, declared that the Government highly appreciates the involvement of trade unions in defending the interests of employees, trade union members. He remarked that at present there is good cooperation between the Executive and the CNSM, a constructive approach is emerging from the trade unions even in the context in which they raise certain criticisms. Pavel Filip specified that many government initiatives, such as the law of meal vouchers, materialized precisely because of the CNSM’s support. In general, Prime Minister was pleased with the fact that trade unions are plenary in the country’s governing act, and here, both the Government and the trade unions converge towards a common, beneficial target: improving the lives of the people in our country.
As representative of the social partner, Leonid Cerescu, president of the National Confederation of Employers of Moldova, highlighted in his intervention the joint efforts of the trade unions and employers’ organizations aimed at facilitating the conditions of entrepreneurial activity, improving the business environment of the Republic of Moldova. Explicitly, the leader of the employers’ organizations in Moldova has pointed out the contribution of the trade unions to the modification of the legal framework in order to improve it from the perspective of improving the regulations of the business activity.
Ala Lipciu, national coordinator of the International Labour Organization (ILO) to the Republic of Moldova, said that the ILO assistance program for the Republic of Moldova provides trade unions with a special place. This, because, she said, many activities aim at strengthening the technical expertise capacities in the workplace, the work of the sectorial committees.
Mihail Cotorobai, People’s Advocate, was pleased with the trade union solidarity that manifests in the context of the collaboration between his representative institution and the CNSM regarding the protection of people’s interests. In this context, the concrete results are recorded. He noted the collaboration agreement between the People’s Advocate and the CNSM to coordinate joint efforts aimed at respecting fundamental human rights, which imply proper working conditions and decent remuneration.
On the occasion of the Trade Unionist’s Day, a group of trade union leaders, who were highlighted by remarkable achievements in protecting the social and economic rights and professional interests of trade union members, was awarded the Honorific Insignia and the Merit Diploma of the CNSM.
