Trade unionists examine in Bratislava the challenges to freedom and democracy in Europe and the role of trade unions

In September 27-28, in Bratislava, Slovakia, the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) organizes the meeting “Challenges to Freedom and Democracy in Europe. Trade Union Role and Response”, during which are discussed the most important challenges in different regions of Europe and Central Asia on democracy, freedom and the role of trade unions in this respect.

During the meeting, the participants, members of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC), express their position on the different situations faced by trade union organizations in the context of collective bargaining, freedom of expression, the right to strike, attacks on the freedom of association of trade union activists.

The meeting is also attended by the members of the 5th Youth Committee of PERC, who have the opportunity to exchange ideas, to assert the potential of young people and their importance for the future of the trade unions. On behalf of CNSM participated Gabriela Tricolici, main specialist in the Trade Union Federation of in the field of Consumers’ Cooperative, Trade and Business “MOLDSINDCOOPCOMERŢ”, active member of the PERC Youth Committee.

In the context of the talks, Peter Scherrer, deputy General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), said that democracy and the political role of trade unions would be one of the priorities included in the next agenda of the new PERC Executive Committee, at the IV ITUC Congress, whose implementation mechanisms are the promotion of trade union values ​​among young activists, the cultivation of trade union leadership, the respect of the democratic rights of trade union members.
