The Women’s Commission of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM) made the totals of the activity carried out during the years 2018-2019. The evaluation meeting, which took place on November 29, was attended by the CNSM leadership, presidents of the national-branch trade union centers, representatives of the state structures and of the civil society.
According to Liuba Rotaru, the president of the Women’s Commission of the CNSM, the activity of the structure during this period was directed towards achieving the goals of the CNSM Strategy for the years 2017-2022 on ensuring gender equality in trade unions. The trade unionists have set as priorities in their activity the promotion of women’s health and social-economic protection, the activation of measures to respect the principle of decent work and fair wage for women in the field of work, including the reduction of discrimination in the workplace, the continuation of promotion gender perspective in trade union structures.
At the same time, during these two years, the trade unionists were involved in a range of activities at international level, supporting the policies and initiatives of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC) of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
“We managed to consolidate the team, to carry out a constructive dialogue with the decision makers, to have a very good collaboration with the specialists within the CNSM and with the presidents of the national-branch trade union centers, but also with the trade union colleagues from abroad, because we have the same goals and we are happy when we record success. However, many problems remain unresolved, and we will continue to focus on them,” Rotaru said.
Oleg Budza, president of CNSM, evaluated positively the activity of the Women’s Commission during this period and mentioned that the percentage of women in the Confederation structure is increasing, reaching 62%, which allows them to carry out an effective activity in the field of promotion social and labor rights of employees. “However, we tend to increase the percentage of women in the trade union leadership bodies, so that by the year 2022, to have more women in the CNSM leadership,” the trade union leader emphasized.
Present at the event, Olga Nicolae, ITUC-PERC policy advisor, said that the harmonization of family life with work is of greater interest to the PERC Women’s Committee, as women continue to do a great job at home, taking care of family to the detriment of their careers. “Many women are still on poorly paid jobs, with a large pay gap – 40%, which is regrettable”.
During the evaluation meeting, several trade unionists took the floor and spoke about the achievements of the Women’s Commission during the reference period, appreciating the activity of the structure as a satisfactory one.
Ana Selina, president of the Trade Union Federation of Workers from Sphere of Social Service and Manufacture of Goods “SINDINDCOMSERVICE”, ex-president of the Women’s structure within CNSM, remarked that the basic concern of the structure must remain the assurance of gender equality at work by equal pay for equal work and the possibility of women’s professional development. At the same time, more attention needs to be paid to the employees’ health and working conditions.
The Women’s Commission is a structure of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova, which aims to protect the professional, economic and social rights of women members of the trade union. In the composition of the CNSM Women’s Commission, there are 24 trade unionists, representatives of all the national-branch trade union centers.
