Young trade unionists from three countries are trained in Odessa at a Summer School in the field of employee protection

Representatives of the Youth Commission of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova are taking part in the Summer School for Young Trade Unionists in Odessa, Ukraine, organized by Solidarity Centre and “Трудові іnіціативи”. The main objective of this summer school is to help create a regional active trade union community and to develop leadership skills among young trade unionists.

At its fourth edition, the Summer School brought together several young trade unionists and civic activists from Ukraine, Moldova and the Czech Republic. The activity involves organizing intensive trainings in the field of labour protection, promoting decent work and trade unionism, combining the theoretical and practical part, through workshops, where young people are trained by Ukrainian trainers, experts in various fields. The organizers have offered to provide participants with useful information, to stimulate their creativity, the desire to have new experiences and to develop projects, to broaden the knowledge circle in networking activities and to exchange experience.

The list of thematic workshops of the Odessa Summer School includes topics such as: methods of collective involvement in the field of trade union rights protection; success stories about the work of trade union organizations; social justice and the role of trade unions in ensuring equal opportunities and the right to peaceful assembly; motivation of trade union membership; the role of tolerance in society and in the process of social dialogue; discrimination at the workplace on different criteria.

At the same time, young people learn how to build and develop a trade union organization, focusing on technological change and labour market trends; are familiar with the socio-economic challenges related to migration and the informal economy; implementing creative ideas in trade union activity; public relations techniques and communication in trade union organizations; informal communication in the negotiation process.

For six days, participants consolidate their knowledge to be able later to engage in the protection of workers’ rights, trade union members, and develop communities in which they work through a social partnership at all levels.
