The General Council of Education and Science Trade Union (ESTU) decided on March 13, 2014, within a sitting, to start mass protest actions, with the participation of the ESTU members, during the period of April 7-11, 2014, for the increase of the education personnel’s salaries up to 50%.

The purpose of the ESTU’s actions is to manifest the protest towards the indifferent attitude of authorities, expressed through the refuse to conduct negotiations concerning the increase of education employees’ salaries with regard to the increase of prices. The claims (slogans, posters, chants) will have a strictly social-economic character.

Besides the request of salary increase, the participants in the protest actions will also ask for:

  1. The establishment of the rate of remuneration for the 1st category of the Unique tariff network equal to the minimum of subsistence.
  2. The raise in pay for holders of academic degrees „Doctor of Science” – 1000 lei  and „Doctor Habilitatus” – 1500 lei.
  3. The increase of the rate of scholarships for all categories of studying youth, starting with January 01, 2014.
  4. The adoption of the Government’s Decision concerning the grant of social facilities to young specialists, employed at the education institutions according to the placement of the Ministry of Education.

So, the ESTU members will picket the Moldovan Government during the period of April 7-10, 2014, daily, within 10.00 – 12.00. Then, starting with April 11, at 11 o-clock, it will be organized a protest meeting in the Great National Assembly Square. In case the submitted claims are not satisfied, the Education and Science Trade Union reserves its right to go on strike at branch level.
