The National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova (NCTUM) announced Thursday, March 27, 2014, within the sitting of the Confederal Committee, that it joins the Education and Science Trade Union (ESTU) in organising and participating in the massive protest actions, which will take place during April 8-11, 2014, for the 50%-pay rise of the teaching staff.
President of NCTUM Oleg Budza specified the necessity of uniting the efforts of all trade union members in order to achieve the purpose of teachers’ pay rise.
„There are specialist teachers in any branch of economy. Therefore, all branch trade unions should participate in the protest actions organised by ESTU, in which we will manifest against the negative attitude of authorities towards the education staff”, the NCTUM leader mentioned.
In its turn, president of ESTU Dumitru Ivanov said the negotiations with the authorities already started, being organised two meetings. But it wasn’t reached a compromise yet.
So, besides the pay rise request, the participants in the protest actions will also ask for:
The adoption of the Government’s Decision concerning the grant of social facilities to young specialists employed at the education institutions according to the assignment of the Ministry of Education.
The ESTU members will picket the Government of Republic of Moldova during April 8-10, 2014, daily, between 10.00 – 12.00. Then, on April 11, at 11.00, it will be organised a protest meeting in the square of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre ”Maria Bieşu”. In case of not meeting the submitted requirements, the Education and Science Trade Union reserves its right to go on strike at branch level. The strike will take place at the employees’ permanent place of job.
The Education and Science Trade Union includes approx 123 thousand trade union members, employees and branch students.
