The board of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM) and the representatives of CNV Internationaal from the Netherlands and Benin and of the Association “Făclia” from Ungheni had on Friday, June 24, a meeting during which the parties discussed the situation of young people and the activity of the trade union movement in Moldova.
The participants got familiar with the activities of trade unions in protecting and promoting youth, peculiarities of trade unionism in our country, the development of collaborative relationships.
Oleg Budza, president of CNSM, made a detailed presentation about the foundation of CNSM, structure of the organization, the activities, actions undertaken in recent years in protecting the rights and interests of employees, trade union members.
“Youth policies are a priority for CNSM, because young people represent the future. Unfortunately, the Moldovan population is aging, in recent years more than 600 thousand citizens have left the country, especially young people. It is necessary to review the policies at state level in this direction to create new jobs, to give young people a decent wage and enable them to benefit from loans under preferential conditions to procure housing,” Budza emphasized.
The trade union leader also pointed out how is organized the national education process, which needs to be reformed to meet the requirements of the labour market.
“In Moldova over 50% of young people are university graduates, while in the West only about 20% of young people have such studies. Moldovan labour market needs not only intellectuals but also well-trained persons who handle professions demanded by the business community,” said Budza.
The president of CNSM highly appreciated the cooperation with CNV Internationaal, which over three years has contributed to the implementation of the project “Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation” and showed open for further cooperation.
“Together in 2013, with EU support, we launched the project “Decent Work for Youth – improving the socio-economic situation of young people in Moldova by empowering them and the civil society” to reduce the weaknesses related to problems faced by young people from several regions of the country. The trade unions had an important role in this project”, said Angela Ciocîrlan, chairman of “Făclia “.
The participants also discussed the need to improve the legislative framework in the field of youth policy, importance of intensifying social partnership to give young people better protection in the labor market and called for strengthening the relations in this direction.
