The struggle against informal economy in Republic of Moldova is very important both for trade unions, as well as, for the International Labour Organization (ILO). This and other aspects were discussed Wednesday, November 13, 2013, by Antonio Graziosi, Director General of Technical Assistance Team for Decent Work and Country Office (DWT/CO) of ILO Budapest, Hungary, within his first official visit and the board of the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova (NCTUM).

Graziosi mentioned that there is no strict line between the formal and informal economy in Republic of Moldova. Therefore, there must exist certain differentiated strategies for a direct action upon the problem.

”If the ILO finds these resources, we’ll discuss and analyse the matter directly with the NCTUM, in order to find common struggle solutions against the informal economy in Republic of Moldova”, Antonio Graziosi specified.

The ILO representative stated that the visit’s goal is the establishment of a direct contact with the social partners and the ambassadors of Republic of Moldova for finding detailed information and the problems faced by each of them.

In its turn, Oleg Budza, the NCTUM’s President, congratulated Antonio Graziosi with his new position, held earlier by Mark Levin and produced detailed information on trade unions’  activity in Moldova and the obtained results in order to help the employees.

”The situation concerning the informal economy, labour security, decent salaries and the problem of finding a job by young people, is alarming. If the remuneration system is not changed, the reform of the pension system will neither change. But, unfortunately, the population of our country gets older. Therefore, the legislation must be changed, especially, the Labour Code, in order to create conditions for the young people to remain in the country and work for pensioners”, Budza declared.

At the same time, the trade union leader specified that Moldova’s tendency to join the European Union, must be ensured by social safeguards.
