Thursday, June 23, the Moldovan Parliament adopted in first reading the amendments to the Contravention Code stipulating that attacking and insulting employees from medicine will be punished contraventionaly.
According to this completion, individuals who will insult employees of medical institutions will bring deliberately insults professional honor and dignity, while exercising the job, verbally or in writing, shall be punished with a fine from 200 to 500 lei. For those extremely aggressive the penalties will be tougher.
Igor Zubcu, vice president of the Federation “SĂNĂTATEA”, welcomed the action of the legislators and said that it will help to better protect healthcare professionals and patients.
“In April 2016 members of the Republican Council of the Trade Union Federation “SĂNĂTATEA” submitted to the authorities a number of claims, including those related to insulting health professionals. We initiated a campaign of awareness and organized 14 flash mobs, the last of which took place on 16 June in the square Ministry of Agriculture”, said Zubcu.
The vice president of the Federation “SĂNĂTATEA” highly appreciated the efforts of Valentina Stratan, deputy of the parliamentary commission for social protection, health and family who supported the Federation in this process and submitted a draft law on completing the Contravention Code to solve this problem.
Igor Zubcu expressed hope that these completions will be adopted by the deputies in the second reading to protect doctors from aggressive patients.
