The employees from the three banks to be liquidated in the near future will receive all payments and benefits due to them; they will be given all the rights established by legislation. The announcement was made on Friday, September 4, by Ion Sturzu, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) during a working meeting with the participation of trade union leaders from the territory of the concerned banks.
During the meeting with the National Bank of Moldova’s leadership, organized at the request of the Federation of Workers’ Trade Unions of Bank and Insurance Institutions from the Republic of Moldova „SIBA” the trade unionists have expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation in the banking system.
„Because people will remain without a workplace and without means of subsistence, following the liquidation of institutions where they have worked up till the moment, in the labor collectives of the Banca de Economii, Unibank and Banca Sociala is prevailing the despair. The employees are living a continuous occupational stress. We’re talking about 3000 people, valuable specialists, and many of them are working for a life within those banks”, declared Victor Onici, President of the „SIBA” Federation.
The trade union leader said that the „SIBA” Federation asked countless times from the decision makers not liquidate those three banks and to be given to the employees the rights under the Labor Code and the Collective Labor Agreements from the banking institutions.
Referring to the created situation, Ion Sturzu, Deputy Governor of BNM reiterated that the three banks will operate until October 16 this year and gave assurances that all payments due to the employees under the law will be honored to them.
According to Sturzu, up to the completion of the liquidation process, some of the staff will remain working in the bank, and some may subsequently commit to other banks.
At the same meeting, the trade union members were informed by the experts of the National Trade Unions Confederation of the Republic of Moldova about the peculiarities of legislation which refers to situations where institutions are liquidated and what the employees should do in order not to be violated their rights and interests.
We remind that the Federation „SIBA” warned repeatedly the decision makers on the precarious situation in which will find themselves the employees and their families following the liquidation of institutions where they are working and asked to undertake the appropriate measures to maintain the labor collectives of the respective banks.
