Members of the Youth Council of the National Confederation of Trade Unions (NCTU) had a roundtable meeting on Thursday, the 5th of September, with a view to identify modern methods in recruitment of new members and were presented international practices in the field.
In the meeting took part Oleg Budza, president of NCTU and the international expert Grigor Gradev, executive secretary of the Pan-European Regional Council of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-PERC), who had a working visit to Moldova in the period 3-6 September at the invitation of NCTU.
According to the leader of NCTU, a “generation gap” it now being registered and the young people are not aware of their rights, are subject to risks at their working sites and they represent the category of population that is most frequently migrating abroad for a better life.
“Trade unions are constantly paying a better attention to the young people by way of organizing activities for them and promoting the interests of young people within negotiations with the social partners”, Budza said.
“Current realities require new approaches in terms of organizational processes and communication with the youth. It is important to have a continuous development, to exchange experiences and to learn new methods of recruitment and promotion of young people”, the leader of NCTU said.
Budza also informed, during the meeting with the young people, about the NCTU activities in the latest period and presented the plans for the future.
Grigor Gradev, executive secretary of the Pan-European Regional Council of ITUC – PERC, made a broad overview of the current situation on the international labor market and informed about the trends in the field of trade union activities.
“Today, the young people are subject to numerous risks due to the fact that there is growing powerful impact caused by the effects of globalization and new technologies development. However, nowadays realities are quite different from those registered ten years ago. Under these circumstances the role and the objectives of trade unions have to change”, Gradev said.
“In order to have a worthy future that will allow them to influence the developments on the labor market, the young trade unionists should pay a better attention to the information and continuous professional development”, international expert mentioned.
In her turn Stela Stratila – Sîrbu, the president of the Youth Council of NCTU, pointed out that suchlike training activities with the participation of experts from abroad are extremely useful to young people as they bring new trends in the activity of trade union movement and contribute to the development of new professional skills.
The Youth Council is a body within the National Confederation of Trade Unions, which brings together youth organizations from the national-branch trade union centers – members of NCTU. Currently, about 30% of the trade union members are young people.
